After the flood of 1957, the Turia was diverted to a new 12 km long riverbed. Following this action, the idea of converting the old riverbed into a motorway to the sea was mooted. Neighborhood movements put an end to this idea and managed to make it green, thus turning it into a garden, but the controversy continues, as cars are still dominant and to this day the river still lacks the outlet it deserves.
