OPEN HOUSE ROUTES.”Moreno Barberá and the Blasco Ibáñez campus”

Av. de Blasco Ibáñez, 30, 46010 València, Valencia, España

The capital of the Turia has the good fortune to house some of Fernando Moreno Barberá’s most significant buildings, such as the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, the Laboratories of the Faculty of Science and the School of Agricultural Engineers, all of which are included in the international DOCOMOMO register.

These educational pavilions of the original Campus del Paseo al Mar show the modern discourse of Moreno Barberá who, trained in Germany, had learned a style of work -Arbeitsstil- and the principles of functionalism. Enriched later after traveling to the United States and meeting Mies van der Rohe and Richard Neutra, he drew for Valencia one of the most brilliant episodes of the International Style. The American influence in the arrangement of the complex is evident both in the landscape treatment of the outdoor spaces and courtyards and in the use of visual criteria for the volumetric composition.
